8 Charges That Get Added on Moving Day, and How to Stop Them
These are the charges Kolkata customers most often tell us they were surprised by with another mover. None of them is wrong in itself. They become a problem only when nobody mentioned them before the truck arrived.
1. Floors without a lift
Common in old houses in North Kolkata, Bowbazar and Shyambazar. Tell the mover the exact floor at both ends, and get the floor charge written down.
2. Narrow lane shuttle
A 17 ft truck cannot enter many paras in Baguiati, Kestopur or Behala. Ask at the survey where the truck will stand and whether a Tata Ace shuttle is needed.
3. Society lift booking and waiting
New Town and Salt Lake societies often allow the service lift only in fixed hours. Book the slot yourself and share it with the mover, so the crew does not wait unpaid or charge for waiting.
4. Extra cartons
Phone estimates usually count fewer cartons than a real home needs. A physical or video survey of every room, including the loft, fixes this.
5. Fridge, AC and washing machine
